There is much to see and do in the immediate area including walking, fishing and shooting. (Full details of activities and sights will be available in the cottage.)
We are only 40 minutes' drive from historic Londonderry/Derry, and an hour's drive from a wealth of beautiful sites including the Marble Arch Caves, Fermanagh Lakes, Rossnowlagh surfing beach, Donegal town, Ardara. Slieve League (meaning Grey Mountain in Irish), the highest sea-cliffs in Europe at 601m, are well worth a day-trip (about 65 miles away). City of Derry Airport is approx. 25 miles, Belfast International 80 miles (via M1) and Belfast City 85 miles.
The Ulster American Folk Park is only a 15-minute drive down the road towards Omagh and well worth a day out, especially if you have young children.
The closest village is Ardstraw which is quiet and safe. Amenities include a pub, a Spar supermarket selling local produce, a petrol station and a local hardware shop. There are also recycling facilities in the grounds of the Spar. The village of Newtownstewart has a Northern Bank, an excellent restaurant, a good fish and chip shop, Hoods furniture and bric-a-brac shop, Post Office, and a couple of supermarkets. Castlederg, Sion Mills and Strabane have many more shops. Castlederg is a good place to stop for picnic items on your way to Donegal. Asda in Strabane is ideal if you intend to do a big family shop.
